System Engineer Linux & Containers

• Administer systems by installing, configuring, maintaining, updating, patching, and enhancing the security of Linux operating systems (Red Hat) and containers (Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes)
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control
• Deploy servers and manage virtualization (VMware)
• Handle capacity management, monitoring, performance tuning, and resource optimization
• Ensure security and compliance by implementing best practices to protect Linux systems from cyber-attacks, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems
• Design, implement, and test backup and disaster recovery solutions for Linux systems
• Automate processes for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
• Troubleshoot and support system issues, hardware failures, and network problems
• Provide technical and customer-focused support to other teams
• Maintain documentation and inventory
• Design and architect virtualization infrastructure, including VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi hosts
• Install, configure, and manage virtual machines
• Configure and manage virtual networking and storage, including switches, port groups, VLANs, network connectivity, datastores, SAN, and NAS integration, and storage optimization

• Extensive knowledge and experience with Linux (Red Hat), Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Satellite, Tomcat, Cloud Suite, and GlusterFS
• Proficiency with containers (Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, Docker)
• Understanding of virtual networking, including switches, ports, and VLANs
• Deep knowledge of clustering
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, vSphere, vCenter, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Knowledge of storage systems: SAN, NAS, Fiber Channel, archiving, and backup
• Proficiency in scripting languages: Shell, Perl, Python, Bash, Ansible, Kickstart, Terraform
• Networking experience with TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP
• Knowledge of firewalls, routing, DMZ, VLAN, VPN, (reverse) proxies, etc.
• Understanding of general concepts: DRP, BCM, and configuration management
• Good understanding of the OSI model and associated protocols
• Familiarity with governance frameworks: ITILv3, etc.
• Basic understanding of Java development
• Practical experience with identity tools (Red Hat IDM, Active Directory, ADFS, Quest One Identity)
• Practical experience with antivirus protection
